Shift bids and rostering

Shift bidding software that builds the lines for you

ShiftLine builds bid lines for each station and workgroup with an optimization solver (Google OR-Tools CP-SAT). Lines cover your demand curve, follow your labor contracts and land on your FTE and full-time/part-time targets.

Bid lines, generated

Each line shows its shifts Monday to Sunday, days off, weekly hours, FTE and cost. Generation runs in the background with live progress, and lines that need attention are flagged.

A pre-solve check blocks conflicting rules and targets before a solve starts, so you are not left waiting for an impossible run.

Bid lines grid: each full-time or part-time line with its start and end times Monday to Sunday, weekly hours, FTE and weekly cost.
Bid lines built by the solver: full-time and part-time lines with days off, hours, FTE and cost.

Coverage you can see

Compare scheduled staff against demand for every interval of the week, with gaps and overstaffing highlighted and a week-at-a-glance heatmap. Every bid reports FTE achieved, headcount, paid hours, coverage gap, weekly cost and compliance.

ShiftLine bid for DFW Fleet Service, Q1 2027: FTE achieved 40.00, 47 people, coverage gap 10.3%, compliant; a demand-versus-scheduled chart for Monday in 15-minute intervals.
A generated bid: FTE, headcount, coverage gap, cost and compliance, with demand vs scheduled staff per 15 minutes.

Three ways to size the bid

Pick the target that matches where you are in planning.

  • Most optimal

The solver sizes the workforce: it meets your coverage target first, then uses the fewest paid hours. Cost and line quality only break ties.
  • FT % and headcount

Target an FTE and a full-time/part-time percentage, by FTE or by lines, with an optional total headcount — as hard limits or soft goals.
  • Exact line counts

Ask for an exact number of full-time and part-time lines when the bid package is already agreed.

Details that matter on the ramp

  • Fixed or rotating lines

Lines that repeat every week, or rotations over several weeks.
  • Breaks placed by the solver

Meal and rest breaks are placed by the solver inside the windows your contract allows.
  • Locks and manual edits

Lock lines you want to keep, edit shifts by hand with live compliance checks, and regenerate the rest.
  • Cost estimates

Paid hours, overtime and premiums turn into a weekly cost estimate for each bid.
  • Best FT/PT mix study

Compare several full-time/part-time mixes to see how coverage, headcount and paid hours move before choosing one.
  • Chat with the bid

Ask why a line exists or ask for a change in plain language; proposed changes are shown for approval before anything is applied.
